Andrew Stover our Wine Broad

Summer Sips and Decanting with the Soirée Wine Aerator

The Dog Days of Summer are upon us and nothing refreshes more than a crisp white wine. Look for wines that are unoaked and from cooler regions as they are chock-full of refreshing acidity.

Good Dog Days of Summer choices:

Pinot Grigio
Pinot Blanc
Sauvignon Blanc

Or better yet, sometimes a crisp refreshing beer is in order. Try Hefeweizen or a Belgian White Ale. Andrew’s pick: Allagash White from Portland, Maine.

Many people are always curious about the act of Decanting. Decanting is used to either aerate a very robust red white or to separate sediment from an older red wine.

Most bottles of red wine will benefit from aeration—allowing the wine to mix with oxygen which causes the aromas and flavors to shine. Today we will test out the Soirée wine aerator to see if indeed it changes the aromas and flavors of 2 different red wines.

Soirée is a bottle-top wine aerator and costs around $25. Soirée fits securely into any wine bottle allowing you to pour, without dripping directly through the Soirée. By pouring wine with a Soirée, the Soirée creates an intermediary stage where the wine is infused with oxygen and then cascades into your glass. In using the Soirée to aerate your wine, you will notice the subtleties and character of the wine emerge immediately upon entering your glass.

Wines that we are testing with the Soirée:
