SPRING FLING!
Ok, so its spring and after our tasting of Pink wines from a few weeks back, I thought it appropriate to do a run-down of Spring-y whites to usher in the season.
Parés Baltà ‘Blanc de Pacs' White, Penedès, Spain
I like to refer to this one as Spanish Cava without the bubbles. It's a blend of the same grapes used to make the popular Spanish Cava bubblies and could be compared to Pinot Grigio. Its fresh and lively with lemon/lime notes mixed with green apple, pear and banana with wet stones on the finish. Its truly a fresh Spring wine.
Ravines Dry Riesling, Finger Lakes, New York
The Finger Lakes region is becoming well known for crisp and tasty cool climate wines, especially Riesling. This wine is a fabulous taste of spring-floral aromas with lime zest, apricots and a smooth finish. Not too sweet either, which is often the impression of Riesling.
Fire Road Sauvignon Blanc, New Zealand
How about a New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc that doesn't taste too much like cat pee and around $10 a bottle? Meet the new Fire Road Sauvignon Blanc. Its herby and vivacious-fresh cut grass, lemon citrus and a zingy finish. It's a perfect spring sipping wine and quite tasty with a green salad.
Dobbes Family Estate Viognier, Rogue Valley, Southern Oregon
With all the talk about Oregon wine, few people realize a whole world of wine lies down in Southern Oregon near the California border; and for those who like a little fuller, lusher white wine, this one fits the bill and screams out spring floral bouquet. You can smell the white flowers and honeysuckle on the nose which moves into lush tropical fruit flavors on the palate and finishes off with a lush texture on the finish. Tasty!
